10.1 Official install fails after partition choice
Hello,
I just tried to install Mandrake 10.1 Official, but if fails after the choice of partitions.
My disks are already partitionned, and Mandrake 10.0 installed without problem on them.
Here is the error message :
===
Le partitionnement a échoué : Point de
montage en double : none
===
Which in english should give something like that :
===
Partitioning failed: Mount
point in double: none
===
Do you know what could be the problem?
Here is more information:
Code:

Périphérique Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hde1 * 2 5600 44973967+ 83 Linux
Why does your boot partition start at sector 2?
Maybe if you made it start at sector 1 it would work properly.

It should work as it is.
This has never been a problem for Mandrake 9.1, 9.2, 10.0, nor Knoppix.

Yes it shouldn't matter.
Could it be that the installer doesn't know about your SATA drive?

There is something strange about that.
With Mandrake 9.2, SATA was not recognised, so my 2 hard disks were hda and hdb.
When I installed Mandrake 10.0 (install, not upgrade) my 2 hard disks were recognised as hde and hdf. 9.2 was in kernel 2.4.x, while 10.0 was a 2.6.x.
The question here is why this Mandrake 10.1 fails to install were Mandrake 10.0 installed itself perfectly.
I checked the ISO image against its md5sum before burning the CD-ROM, it was ok.
Is there a way to check the burned CD-ROM ? (something similar to the Knoppix cheatcode "testcd")?
Can I check it with something like
Code:
cat /dev/hdh | md5sum
Thanks and best regards
Yann

Mandrake 10.1 Possible Solution Route
I am new to Mandrake Linux. I had difficulty getting a Mandrake 10.1 Community distro to boot to desktop, a lot of people are complaining. It appears a lot of boot difficulty stems from Mandrake's limited video card drivers. If your video card does not work with one of the few drivers included and assigned by Mandrake installer, you will get a grub or bash command line. I resolved my problem by selecting the safe boot option at the startup menu, typing "drakconf" on the command line and trial and error selecting different Graphic drivers and running "test." I finally picked on that returned a message asking me if I wanted "X' to load at startup. I punted and picked yes. On reboot, I got the KDE desktop and am off and running.
I think the problem is that Mandrake distro (unlike the new Suse 9.1 distro) installer does not work with many graphics card setups. While two Dell choices are included, a most important one is omitted. All of my Dell Computers have Dells integrated graphics\sound electronics on the motherboard. Many Dells come this way. Since Dell is the world's biggest computer maker and seller, you would think Mandrake staff would see to it that the installer can handle Dell's major graphics\sound hardware!
This is particularly important since Dell appears to work closely with Microsoft. Dell makes it clear on their website that they support (only?) Windows XP and they do not load PCs with Linux. That is, it does not behove a Dell Tech to provide consumer assistance with migrating a Dell to Linux.
In sum, if you have Mandrake 10.1 installed but boot to a command line, either reinstall and focus on trouble shooting the graphics drive "Do" and you stand a good chance of getting up and running.

J_Onyx29 :
That had absolutely nothing to do with this thread.
If you wish to expound upon this a new thread is probably called for...
cactux:
I doubt that this is directly a Mandrake issue, but rather caused by changes to the kernel modules.
Hopefully by now Mandrake has posted some errattas about SATA installations on their web site, although I haven't checked.
