10.1 installation (Help Appreciated)

I'm having troubles installing. So I downloaded the three cds, and burned everything on them like a normal data disc, but they won't boot. And yes, my bios is on boot cd first. I did try making a boot floppy (which I shouldn't have to do anyway), that ended up with an error like "syslinux 1.76 boot failed." So, what am I doing wrong? Did I burn it wrong?

When you say you burnt them like a normal data disc, do you mean that if you look at the CD in a file manager, there is a single file on them called something.iso?

If so, you need to burn them using a special option in your Cd burning software - it will be called something like 'burn CD image' or 'burn ISO file'. This is because an .iso file contains everything on the CD - not just the files. A little bit like comparing a zip file with the unzipped files.

If you post what burning software you are using, somebody here may be able to help with the exact option.

Everyone keeps saying there is an ISO. WTF. I download it and i get folders like doc, dosutils, install, isolinux, lang, media after extracting with winrar. I don't get it. Where are the iso's? Also, I forgot to mention, when I just burn the files I have straight onto the cd, oddly enough it automatically gives me a linux install menu (though none of the button dealys work). And please, I don't mean to be rude, but everyone I've talked to about this has laughed at me like an idiot, and treated me like I don't know what an ISO is. I do, trust me. I can tell you for a fact, when I unzip, there is no iso i find. I'll even take a screenshot for you if you need it.

you don't need to winrar the iso

just download the iso
and write the iso to a CD

iwpcs asked what burning software you use
this will help us guide you through the steps
otherwise you might write some really neat coffee coasters
