10.1 Cannot Download Updates
Hi all
Installed 10.1 at the weekend. Proceeded over to
http://www.mandrakeusers.org/easyurpmi/
and went through the steps. Then kicked off a urpmi --auto-select
This reported a good wodge of packages (as expected) so I kicked off installing them. However, coming back 15 mins later a lot of the packages were failing to download with messages such as
ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/man...01mdk.i586.rpm
...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 19 or signal 0
I presumed that something was wrong with the files / list on the mirror and that it would resolve itself in a day or so. Have just tried again - and it fails on 60+ packages.
Any advice very welcome! I've tried removing all media and re-adding. Is it worth trying non uk mirrors (ie not sunsite) or is the problem more likely to be at my end
TIA for any help

Try a different mirror.
Follow instructions from:
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
You can also, sometimes, confirm if the packages are located on the mirror you've chosen by either ftp to the site or through your browser.
For example, I used easyurpmi to point to:
urpmi.addmedia main ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/m...586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz
Sometimes, when I have a problem with updates (like the recent kde-base updates) I point my browser to http://mandrake.secsup.org/Mandrakelinux/ and check if the packages are where they are supposed to be. This just happens to be the setup for secsup, another mirror may be different or may not provide anonymous access.
Regards,
Crispus

The primary problem is with the site you are downloading from. Try visiting easyurpmi (either the main 'zarb' site or the MandrakeUsersBoard site (MUB just mirrors the main site) and setiing up a different set of mirrors.
Also, when there is a *boatload* of updates to download, urpmi seems to choke a little bit. You might want to try it in smaller chunks, if you can.
Edit: I find it sometimes helps to add a "--wget" option to my urpmi command. This uses a different retrieval method from "curl", which is the default, and in my experience, is more reliable.

I get this all the time when updating a large number of packages, whatever mirror I select. The solution, leave it for a while, the installation usually continues after a few seconds or minutes. If it just hangs, just do Ctrl-c and run "urpmi --auto-select" again.

Just replaced the sunsite (UK) updates with one in the NL and its now fine.
Shouldn't the mirrors just be carbon copies of one another? These seemed to be missing files errors rather than an overloaded FTP etc...

They *should* be carbon copies, but sometimes things get messed up, or a push to the mirrors fails, or the server is undergoing maintenance, or ....
I keep links to Dutch and French mirrors, as well as my default USA ones, just in case.

I think some mirrors get updated faster than others, so you may find that if you try to use the same mirror a few hours later, things may work out fine and those missing files magically appear
