Root password not accepted after logging in.
Hey,
I recently installed Mageia 5 for a second time and the installation went okay. I was able to do an update with no noticeable issues. Now, any App that requires Authentication my Root password is not accepted. If I intend to us the terminal as root and type 'su', I am asked for my password. After I carefully enter it, I am told it is not valid. I discovered that when I tried to restart polkit from the terminal, “systemctl restart polkit”, which was suppose to fix the issue but in my case I did not get pass then authentication process as my password (entered correctly) was called invalid. I even tried using 'sudo' and again the password is called invalid. I have tried rebooting several times with no change. What's my next step? herakles_14 |
You entered your user password when using sudo, right? You could reset the root password and see if that helps.

Hy There,
In my case the Root and the uses password are the same. Since, I am the only person who uses this PC, I saw no poet in having two passwords. |
Mageia by default does not configure the sudoers file. The pervy sudo fetish is a Ubuntu thing, which gets passed on to its derivatives through osmosis.
OP, could you paste a few examples of some of the login failures you are seeing? Seeing them first hand might help. |
also be aware
"su" and "su -" do very different things so HOW are you trying to become root ? |
Do not know about Mageia, but most distros require user to be in a special group to su.

Hey,
I should have posted this sooner, but I was a little embarrassed at making such a dumb mistake. I have my Mageia's keyboard layout set at Colemak instead of the traditional qwerty layout. To login I use qwerty but once inside Mageia, I would switch to Colemak. Only I forgot to switch over and thus the ensuing confusion. All is okay now. |
