Unhappy kTorrent GUI doesn't open after upgrade to #9

I've been suffering this for a while now but put up with it. A couple of weeks ago I somehow managed to find/discover the GUI after it had taken forever to download the pre-torrent files (I presume - or however it works). Anyway I managed to be able to access it through a few overnight restarts, but then, after all of the torrents had finished downloading and seeded for a while; I stopped torrents and deleted torrents and data. Since the following restart, if I try to start kTorrent from the Task Bar Icon, it briefly appears as stating (whirling icon in Task Bar) then disappears. In the process monitor I can see it is actively downloading some new small torrents I had done, but NO GUI - it is somehow, as previously, starting and running in the background by default. This has never been the case with kTorrent in every release of Mageia I have been through - #3 onwards. (IIRC).
Is anyone able to help with this? I searched prior to posting and found an old forum post in the KDE Community Forums circa 2007 (not directly related to Mageia though, but same problem).
Some suggestions proffered were:

Issue the following command in the terminal.

ktorrent --nofork

it didnt work (his reply); my reply is the same - "ktorrent: Unknown option 'nofork'."

is there anything else that might work?

killall ktorrent (to make sure it isn't running)

Then edit ~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc and delete all lines containing hidden_on_exit

Then restart ktorrent, and it should appear

I checked "~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc" this file does not exist.

So where to from here?
(There's probably a perfectly simple solution to this I'm betting, just I haven't found it)

Any help gratefully accepted.
Milo

have you tried re\setting\installing it?

E.g: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?...128278#p341773

Okay, I un-installed then re-installed KTorrent and same thing happens so I'm no further advanced.
I have found some sort of config text file (ktorrentrc) in the .config folder. So I“ll have to read up on KTorrent to see if things in there are affecting the way it's behaving.

After reinstalling it, it will use the same configuration files from the originall install.

That way, it saves your settings throughout reinstalls...

so, If the problem happens to be in those files: copy them somewhere else (as back ups, incase they aren't recreated) and then delete them to see?

I.e: resetting

All sorted

Thanks for the replies. sorry it has taken me a while to reply, had other system problems.
I eventually stumbled upon how to get to the open KTorrent window. After starting Ktorrent, by accident (looking for something else IIRC) I found an entry in the "Show hidden icons" area when I clicked on the up button it showed various things - including KTorrent. Clicked on that and voilą switched to the KTorrent window! Sometimes I can just click on the short cut in the taskbar and the window starts up and I'm able to switch to it.
So it seems all sorted now. Just different behaviour to what was going on previouly.
Thanks greatly for all the help and advice, greatly appreciated.
