Can't connect to Wifi network
 

I am using mageia 2.0 on an external HDD,
it boots up well,
the LAN port is working,
my wifi is Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030,
I download the driver and put it in /lib/firmware,
the wifi network can be detected, a few names of wifi were displayed,
I choose my network, and
I key in password, but when I click connect, it says connection error.

This is not the normal location to put a kernel driver. What exactly did you download? Please supply a link so we know what you did.

This card is supported by the iwlwifi driver since kernel version 2.6.36.

Open a konsole, as root run the command 'lspci -v'. This will dump out many lines of information. look through the lines, and find the ones for your wireless card. Copy and paste all the lines here. The last line should show the kernel driver you have loaded.

I would expect this driver would be part of Magia 2. You should not have to download it. Most drivers found this way are source code, and you have to compile the source to get the binary file to load with the modprobe command.

I did not setup my wifi during installation.

This is the firmware, not the driver. Did you unpack it? This is a tar archive. Note the .tgz extension.

You have the driver loaded, your last post shows "Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi". iwlwifi is the driver.

This statement is confusing. I understand you unpacked the firmware, and placed it in the /lib/firmware directory.

What is "the other one"??? I can not see your system, you need to be specific.

To make this card work, you need the iwlwifi driver loaded in the kernel. You can tell if it is loaded by the command '/sbin/lsmod | grep iwlwifi' or by looking at '/sbin/lspci -v' and the last line of the hardware information will show the kernel module loaded. All commands without the quotes. You need the ucode file in /lib/firmware. As far as I can tell, this file is the firmware you need.

If you have those conditions met, the rest becomes configuration.

What distro, version and release?

Are you using Network Manager, or WICD to configure it?

What is the output of the command '/sbin/ifconfig' ?

Have you got a router? What is it's configuration? Is it a DHCP server? Have you configured DNS?

I mean I download this one and unpack,
my wifi unstable, it is connected but can't open webpage after 10minutes,
I have to disconnect it, and reconnect.

I setup by clicking the network icon on the taskbar,
it opens a setting windows, i can choose my wifi and key in the password to connect.

From what I can see, you have the wrong ucode. Can open up the /lib/firmware directory, run a ls-l command, copy and paste any file you have there. It will look something like this:

I am using 4G - Wimax service,
it is DHCP, no need Proxy settings.

It is ipv 4 only,
so ipv 6 is not selected.

I have not had any experience with 4G Wimax. From what I can see, you have the correct kernel module, and correct firmware on your system. So, at this point, not much more I can help with.

Only thing I can suggest, is try the system in another area ( move the system ) where this service is working for others.

Possibly someone here has experience with 4G Wimax, and can suggest some more things.

I summary, next time you open a thread, provide more information up front. I would have never responded to a thread knowing I know very little about this service. Much time has been lost by both of us.

I believe the driver of wifi is correct,
network setting is also correct.
right now my solution is to "disconnect and connect" whenever the connection does not work,
this solution works.
I am not sure why is it like that,
this does not happen in Ubuntu.
