View Poll Results: Does the idea of total posts chart appeal to you?
Yes, and we can remove forum stats from each forum.
Hi all. I've been wanting a chart to display the number of posts I've made in each forum.
You know, like there is a forum stats in each forum to display the total posts I've made in that forum.
What I am saying is something like on the main page, where on the extreme right it says, "Welcome back USER, you were last online... There have been ... posts and ... thread" there should be a link to "Your posts chart"
Clicking on this link would display
Linux General
XX posts
Linux Newbie
XX posts
Programming
XX posts
Software
XX posts
Hardware
XX posts.
Would you be interested in something like this? 'Coz I am very much interested in this.
This is something I could really care less about. Its a resource hog and I would think the time spend in creating the page would not be worth to implement.. well, at least that's what I think. Not trying to be negative or anything, I just can't see Jeremy taking his time to implement something that would not be used by just a few who are interested in their own stats when they can view this already by clicking on the "Forum Stats" link in each forum they go to, to view, etc.
I'm not sure I understand what benefits would be gained by capturing those kinds of statistics. How would this information be used exactly? To use an analogy, suppose that, say, Yahoo Mail did something similar and listed how many Emails you had sent to each person in your address book. I suppose that Yes, it might be mildly interesting to see that you've sent 117 Emails to Joe and 94 to Susan and 81 to Gary, etc, but would that affect what you'd write in each Email? I doubt it. Same deal here at LQ - I think that if you've got something to contribute to a thread, and want to post your comments, you will, regardless of whether you are posting in forum A or B or C. Like trickykid indicated, I'm not trying to be discouraging however I see essentially no practical use or benefit for having these kinds of statistics. Just my 2 cents. -- J.W.
I agree with all. I also believe that forum stats is good enough. The onlyu reason why I suggested this was because I thought it might save on LQ's resources. I thought that having just one posts chart would be less demanding on resources than the Forum Stast in each forum. That's what I thought, but, what do I know

Actually its backwards. If a member wants the stats of one forum, they click on that forum stats. If they were all on the same page, you'd have to think, instead of that one query on the DB to pull the stats, you'd be loading a page with a query that runs against all the forums..
