Why did whoever removed my posting ability in the General forum not notify me of this?

I'd be willing to bet it was Jeremy himself that removed your posting rights to the General forum. I'd also be willing to bet that the first strike would have been this post, and the final straw would have your post in response to my post (which appears to have been deleted) following the linked post of yours talking about "NPR programming".
Just for the record: While I have no way of knowing if anyone else did, I didn't report either of your posts in question - and wasn't intending on responding to your post about "NPR programming" either. That said, I can understand why Jeremy is getting pretty annoyed with some of the posting in the General forum these days.
So I dare say you'd have to take it up with Jeremy if you want to be able to post there again.
I would say that it was locked because it nose dived into the gutter fairly sharply... I vaguely recall the post that was deleted, so I won't comment on it. But if it's the post I recall, then that may explain both the thread lock and possibly also the loss of posting privileges.
A while ago we had a plethora of US political threads, which were getting locked fairly regularly...
Now we have covid and vaccine threads one after the other, where neither side seems to be able to respect the others' opinions. It's tragic, lowest common denominator, reddit quality stuff - and from my perspective those wishing to post that kind of thing should take it to those kinds of channels and post their conspiracies, "research", "statics" and pro/anti "vaxxer" nonsense to your collective hearts' content.
I know nothing of any strikes, it was just no more, 'privileges'.
I mean, I don't really care, if I want to post there then I'll just make another account or whatever, and the question was kind of bait anyway, since the answer is "because whoever did it decided to not notify me of it".
In my defense, though, as silly as getting upset at my posts is, I would have posted the offending posts during the infancy of those who were upset by it, since infancy is the prime age where you can even mutilate someone and it's culturally okay.
But alas. No time machine.
All in all pants on head retarded, since I am part of a healthy immune system against bullshit, but why cater to people like me when you can just commit intellectual homicide toward any good and healthy community of people and conveniently die of old age before it comes back to bite you.
Whoever did this, you have made the world a sincerely worse place by siding with actual evil people, and I loathe you and your spineless, cowardly demeanor that only serves to make things worse.
If you have any progeny, I hope they all fall to marxism and end your bloodline, ruin your legacy, and inflict nothing but torment on those who you considered dear in your life.
[removed, and posting privileges have been suspended]
I wish there was an option to hide General and all posts in it from view when I go to "View Latest Threads". Seeing it is disturbing. People should not discuss matters they are not competent with. Nobody is discussing details of brain surgery or design of microelectronics - unless they know what they are talking about. Sociology and economy are not less complicated, yet everybody is an "expert". I browsed thru General and didn't see one single post there (out of hundreds) where the author actually understands the current state of Western civilization. All we can see there is endless debate about consequences, while nobody is even getting close to the reasons. Seeing such human idiocy in spades is grossly unpleasant.

I think there is, but of course you would need to remain logged in all the time.

All of that, the bile and the vitriol only hurts you and not your intended target. Good luck with that "philosophy".
I suggest you take some time away from a computer screen.

Quite honestly, I've lost count of the amount of times I've "skimmed" through threads in the General forum and thought "what is even the point in even reading anymore of this nonsense??", by which time I find myself just closing the tab I've loaded the General forum up in.
The political and covid threads seem to be nothing short of a magnet for conspiracy theorists, misinformation, and other such complete and utter nonsense. I'm sure at least some of the reason, ironically enough, is because people are spending more time at home due to lockdowns/restrictions and are "bored". I'm really starting to see why some say threads in the General forum should have to be about technical topics and non-technical topics should be banned (or at least political threads if nothing else). While I personally can see where those people are coming from, I do have misgivings about it and think it would be a shame if it comes to that.
I think maybe a better approach would be to weed out those here who are here more for an "alternative" to the "traditional social media sites", who aren't really interested much, if at all, in the technical side of things. I think if such people were weeded out, this might also improve the quality of technical discussions in the actual technical forums here as well. In any case, it's pretty clear to me that some here should find far better places for posting the non-technical related crap they spout and post in the General forum.

You can exclude arbitrary fora from _some_ views in via a MyLQ setting. We'll work on improving this in the future.
Perhaps something similar to lines of "we have no opinion on outside issues" and adding to the rules of the general forum to refrain from posting opinions about outside issues.
