What is the CMS system that runs LinuxQuestions.org

Hi. Just wondering if there is a Content Management System (CMS) that you are using to manage this site or whether you have created your own. By CMS, I mean something like Xoops, Drupal, Joomla, etc. I'm building a community site and like the way yours works.

The Forums are a heavily customized vBulletin. I don't know what the other parts are made with, but I suspect they are from scratch or heavily customized as well.

We also use Drupal in parts of the site.

But it look more like only Vbulletin is in use! Clever...

Afaik vBullettin isn't free/open-source. Why does a site, "an epitome of all open-source" use a proprietory software for the website ?

phpBb is known to scale quite well. ..

Please do a search - I've answered this a number of times.

vBulletin is an excellent forum software for high-traffic sites. It's also extremely feature rich and has better security than phpBB, so it's preferred for a forum like LQ.org.

vBulletin is not free forum, but it is excellent, if you want to find some free forums, try phpBB.

I believe there are even better forums than phpBB out there. Try browsing opensourcecms.com for other alternatives. The problem I see with phpBB, it's widely used and adopted so it's a good target for exploits, so their track record isn't that good really. It seems you have to patch it well too often. ;)

Other efficient and free forum is MyBB, someone use it as one free VB.
