It's just an idea, but is it only me or there's more people that sometimes get terrible headaches looking for a tarball, or some binary that, of course, someone knows where to get. Why look in the google if we can just ask for it in a forum and someone can tell us where to get it?.
That way it will be written also for someone that could be looking for the same files I was looking for.
I know that there's already a sw forum, but I'm suggesting a forum only for the exchange of software,
I need this, I found that...
Why look in the google if we can just ask for it in a forum and someone can tell us where to get it?.
Because Google is a search engine!! Do you really have any idea how lazy that sounds? "Why do work for myself when someone else can do it for me!?"
and will more than likely bring about talk of warez and such, i think it is a very bad idea, although i can see what you are getting at to some extent.
Ok, maybe it sounded lazy, sorry,
but,
why is it a very bad idea?
Last time for example I expended a lot of time looking for a new gcc compiler till I decided to ask here, and in a second I had a web page given by dai (thank you btw), was I so lazy?, no, I just couldn't find it, I really wanted to find it before asking, cause like others I like to get things by myself.
I only say that this kind of forum could be useful.
Thanks.
yes you tried to search for it, but i bet if this sw exchange forum is created, a lot of people is just going to post msg like "I want/need xxxx, send it to me or gimme link to it" without ever bother do a search.
I'd say we don't need just an exchange forum just for software. I vote you can try to search for what your looking for, cause there are so many sites out there that have tons of software, like sourceforge.net and such, then if you can't find what your looking for, then ask if anyone here might have any ideas of such software. Given if anyone does, they can provide a link then to the software..
And yes like twk stated, such a forum will cause more laziness in such searches from my point of view..

I don't think we get enough of these to warrant a seperate forum. If you can't find what you are looking for via freshmeat/google/whatever feel free to post in the software forum.
