Want to see my full LQ thread history
It appears that LQ only displays the last 600 threads I have posted to. Is there a way to see all the way to the beginning, when I first became a member?
I'm curious to see my development from my beginning to now. :) Want to see just how dumb I sounded ... You know, stuff like that. |
Presumably you are "subscribed" to all the threads you posted in (that is the default). If so you can see all your posts by reviewing each of the "Subscribed Threads" (in the My LQ box on right side of screen.)
|
If I so a search by my username, it only pulls up the last 600 threads I posted to, which go back to 2007. I registered here in 2004. I apparently only have 17 subscribed threads, I believe which I manually subscribed to at some point or another, for God knows why.

You may have turned off subscriptions to avoid emails but you don't have to do that. You can leave subscriptions on but choose no emails.
Go to Edit Options under My LQ at right. In the options page you'll see: Default Thread Subscription Mode The drop down box has an options for "No Subcription" and "No email notifications". The former keeps you from having any subscriptions. The latter pretty much subscribes you to all your own threads and any you post a reply on. (On any given thread you don't reply to you can also click on thread options to subcribe to that thread.) Also under there is another option: Default Thread Age Cut Off I notice that has "show all threads". Perhaps you have selected something shorter and that is what is limiting how many you can see now? If not then one of the Moderators may have an idea. |
We currently restrict searches to 600 results for resource reasons. It's possible we'll either get rid of this limitation altogether at some point, or simply disable it for username searches.

That's what I figured. I adjusted my settings, to no avail. And it's no big deal. Thanks for the info. |
I, too, want to be able to look at all my posts -- any change that will allow that would be welcome.
I don't remember ever being annoyed at the 600 limit except for user names, & even then not always. Maybe adding a checkbox to disable the limit on request would be nice. Also nice, & perhaps more gentle to LQ resources, would the ability to more finely tune searches using specific years, e.g. "2005", or ranges, e.g. "1 to 3 months ago", "1 to 2 years ago", "3 to 4 years ago", etc. If it's not too OT, this might be a good time to mention a suggestion for a change to the posts field: Instead of "Posts: nnnn", make it "Post: i of nnnn" This addresses "the how dumb I sounded" issue not only for the author, but for subsequent readers. I think it would be useful to know where in someone's LQ "career" a given post was made. |

You could restrict the search to just one forum. You may be able to go back to the beginning in each forum.
|
I can think of several additional tricks:
However, the point is that you shouldn't have to jump through these hoops. |
My suggestion about subscriptions should at least work for posts going forward. I can still see the ones from when I first came in 2005.

Some people may be relieved that their early posts don't show up readily in a search.
