Visitor messages?

Is there some way to completely block visitors from leaving messages? Also, why are they visible to the general public? I hate to have to resort to reporting hate mail, but...

There is no way to disable visitor message at this time, but if it becomes an issue it's certainly something we'll look into. We're looking for feedback on the feature in general, so it's possible we'll alter (or even disable) the feature as well. You can edit or remove comments you find objectionable, FWIW.

Are you sure? I don't see any way to remove a comment. That's why I made this post.

There was a issue that could have prevented it earlier, but it has since been corrected. Are you still unable to remove (may want to try shift-refresh)?

OK, this time I got the delete option, but there is something odd with the page it sends you to. It will only accept the "soft delete" option, which is already enabled.

That's correct. A soft delete hides it from all other members, except myself. The only person who can do a hard delete (which actually removes it from the database) is me.

Fair enough. :) Thanks for the help!

I'm wondering what is the purpose of these visitor messages ? They're supposed to be like PMs only public ? Why ?

jeremy 11-17-2008 01:35 PM

They're there for members to post information about themselves and for members to leave public comments/notes for other members. It's not a feature we custom built, but something in the stock software that we're trying out. As mentioned, we're looking for general feedback on the feature.

Based on feedback you'll be able to hide these from public view on a per user basis. This feature will be added in a future code update.
