User Preferences: Use HTML code instead of vB code? (vB code is overrated)
Hi there,
When I post in these forums, I prefer to use HTML code instead of vB code. I much prefer the familiar syntax of HTML. vB code is overrated. However, I don't see an option to change these settings in my Profile Settings ( http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...on=editprofile ) Is there a way to turn on HTML code? -= Stefan |
Allowing HTML in posts would be completely insecure and will not be an option.

Sorry, I meant a subset of HTML
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I was asking for a full set of HTML features.
What about a subset of HTML? For things like <a href=""> links, <b></b> bold text, <i></i> italic text, lists, etc. Slashdot is arguably the most trolled site on the planet, and they support a subset of HTML (http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=156973&op=Reply) which has been hardened, battle-tested and proven to work over time. I've been typing in HTML for 10 years, and I find HTML way more convenient for basic functions. I use vB code very infrequently, and every time I want to post a proper link I need to look it up in the manual. |
The "Allowed HTML" that /. has is indeed a very safe subset. We don't have any current plans to support that, but we'll keep it in mind (in addition to what we currently support) for a future feature enhancement. The upcoming forum upgrade will also include some tools to make posting a bit easier. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for your quick replies Jeremy! This forum is an excellent resource for Linux users, new and experienced alike.
Thanks! |
You could write a shell script using tr or sed that auto-translates HTML to BB Code... Shouldn't be too difficult. when I get time, I'll have a go at it for you.
