Urgent Question Regarding Urgent Questions! Need Help Now!
Why is this URGENCY becoming all the rage lately? It seems like so many threads have this label slapped on them and I click on them to find a question that has no need for haste what so ever.
Personally, I have vowed not to reply to any threads with these ridiculous subjects.(So technically I should not reply to the thread that I am posting now)

Yeah, I ignore them, too - except yours because I knew what it was about. Which sucks. I've heard people get slammed for using titles like that on principle but I have no problems with it if it actually is important and/or time sensitive. But 95% (very scientific numbers, there) of people abuse it, so I ignore them all, unless they include a piece of actual *subject* and the subject interests me anyway. Ah well.

I prefer the use of STAT over URGENT
Yeah, I don't get too bothered by them, unless it's the same user over and over. Everyone has their "moments" and I try to give them the benefit of the doubt that it's theirs.
Cool

It's also a crazy thing, because it'll take longer for someone to post and wait for someone else to read, search and reply to the topic, compared to the original poster just searching.

I think these posters misunderstand what a bulletin board is about.
It is not manned by paid tech support people that you can throw anything at and they can only say "yes sir (or m'am)".
There are a lot of people here that will try to answer Linux questions on subjects they are familar with. They are not online 24 hours a day to respond to every whim.
I am sure some of the posters that label posts as URGENT really have a problem that is overwhelming to them, but they should understand that they need to wait for the best correct answer in any case, not the fastest. Unfortunately, many of the NEED HELP URGENT!!!!!! requests are simply an attempt to have their question looked at ahead of other questions. I find this a little disgusting too.
I think the mods usual reply about not marking questions urgent as it is disrespectful is a very good response.
But, um, I haven't seen them mention that in this thread...

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

(well it was about time for a doublepost.... i bet this is...)

Now don't think I'm defending them, but if one is saying "URGENT URGENT END O' WORLD PROBLEM" in the subject line i feel that not only are they annoying rookies, but they don't get the real reason for using Linux. You see, not only do I use Linux over Windows because it is a better operating system and it's free, but I use Linux because I believe in the FOSS community, because I believe in doing something yourself, and things should work the way the user wants them to, not some high and wealthy executive. I have a feeling that the other people on this forum believe the same thing, and if the rook's don't like it.... then they can just go back to the prison that Windows is.

I know I'm not helping this thread die, but I quite liked this gem from 2003.
