Update the look

Linux in general is often perceived (outside the community) as an old and outdated "thing", LinuxQuestions.org emphasizes that feeling. Not only does it lack the "Web 2.0" look, but it also lacks the behavior. While the current system definitely works, its not visually appealing.

On an similar note, the more Ajax I see, the more I want to play with the site and see what other Ajax stuff I can find, static sites are obsoletes to me.

This of course is based on my own taste and preferences but hope others will agree

The only change to the look I would suggest would be embedding fonts from the Google Font directory rather than specifying Microsoft fonts in the CSS. My reasoning is not aesthetic or technical: it's ideological. It would be step towards breaking Microsoft's forgotten monopoly.

I second that. No unnecessary clutter, clean and functional.
Actually, this is a help site, and not Facebook/Myspace for Linuxers, so no need for the "Web 2.0"-look.

I'm ok with the site using the default vBulletin style but it would be nice if a few extra themes were installed for registered users to be able to select in their personal forum options. I find the long hours I spend at a computer a whole lot easier when using pastel colours for text on dark backgrounds, the look of Sublime Text or Bespin.

I tend to take a functional view of things and dislike sites that use bells and whistles Just Because They Can.

As far as I am concerned, LQ works, it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I didnt know about that site thank you. Can I assume that every question and answer posted here is mirrored in linuxexchange.org?

I didnt mean JS fireworks when you submit a reply, -knowing now about linuxexchange.org makes this suggestion invalid, but for clarification- what I meant is that 1) I see the same VB look in so many places that I got bored of it, and 2) Some nice features would be nice, like ajax post, multi quote for instance...

A couple notes:

* We actually use AJAX pretty heavily at LQ, including for the quick post.
* As part of the next major code upgrade, the site will get an updated look... but we'll continue to stay focused on a fairly minimalist design.
* LinuxExchange does not in any way mirror LQ content - it's a different site with different goals and completely different paradigm.
