Hello All,

I have looked at the last time I posted to LQ. It was 01-05-09 which I believe means January 5, 2009.

In the few times I posted to LQ I was after a while so intimidated by LQ rules on how to ask a question that I stopped posting and simply let LQ send me their list of threads.

At the time of my last post I had Zenwalk 4.6.1 and Ubuntu on my computer fidelio and Sidux and Etch on my computer alpha and did not yet have my computer bravo or my computer charlie.

I have since backed up my files from my computer alpha and have given my computers fidelio and alpha to my brother to wipe the hard drives and have received my computer charlie from my brother. the back up to alpha went to charlie.

I installed Debian Squeeze on bravo and charlie after trying out several distributions, having decided that for now Squeeze is the operating system I like best.

I still have computers bravo and charlie.

I have decided to try out your Linux Tutorials to overcome my Linux Questions intimidation.

If I had not saved my username and password clue in my password clue book I could not have logged in again. Fortunately, even after two years I was able to log in using the password clue and username.

Perhaps after going through a few of your tutorials I will progress from being an intimidated Newbie to helpful Linux User contributor to Linux Questions.

I installed Squeeze on bravo myself after learning the necessary system administration skills from my brother. Because my brother wanted to help me install some new applications in Squeeze on Charlie which he had just given to me, he coached me on my installation of Squeeze on charlie and the installation of the latest version of Kalzium.

Charlie has about four times the RAM of either alpha or bravo, and thus is able to deal with the RAM usage of the latest version of Kalzium. I had previously tried to install the latest version of Kalzium on bravo but had to uninstall it and install squeeze again.

Tonight I installed libreoffice on bravo the same way I installed it on charlie. I like libreoffice much better than openoffice.

It is late, and I turn into a pumpkin after midnight, so I am going to try my first tutorial on Linux Questions tomorrow.

I will let you know how my tutorial goes after I have done it.

You've done backups, a debain install, and tried out serveral distros? Thats more technical knowledge than a lot of people have.

You dont have to be a 'I know everything backwards' linux user to be helpful. Dont be intimidated.

Welcome back. FWIW, the date format is dependent on your UserCP setting.

That makes sense. Sorry to the OP if your settings are on US date format (month-day-year).

Semi-silly question, but how it it work with people that havent logged in, or have no account here?

I just loaded up opera, came here for a test without logging in, and noticed that with opera the dates are in US format. Is that dependant on browser settings?

The default is US format, as that's where LQ is located.

I've never liked the month-day-year system, it doesnt make much sense to me. I prefer day-month-year, or year-month-day.

+1 It is easier to order but to avoid ambiguity I prefer the month as letters and, for brevity, personally write today's date as 9aug11.

I agree. I like ISO 8601 (which is year-month-day, https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/ISO_8601). Putting the year first reduces confusion with the month/day/year system, and it puts the largest units of time first, which seems more logical.
