I also think a lot of questions don't get answered because they have been answered about 20 times. I.e., the one I answered earlier about "how do I make a backup of my MBR?"... hrrm, google? LQ Search?
well yes, but then those threads are part of what LQ is... a member joins for the first time and posts whatever problem their having. while research would have stopped them asking, they still may leave LQ with a bad impression of the site, and sounding REAL cheesy... we value all members.... other than debian users... hippies. ;-)

Too late! I've decided that I used to own this idea and instead its all mine. I've got proof, millions of posts of proof but I cant actually show you it. Instead I'll sue the moderators and other important people who actually use my idea and try and keep afloat that way. Oh yeah, and its actually remuneration.
The 0-replies threads are usually my first destination after checking out new posts. I always try to get at least a few pages (and a few days-old) into it before calling it quits. I'll hit them extra hard now
Which comes back to one of my pet themes.....heh heh
Can moderators change titles so they show the post is SOLVED or does not need answer if the poster is not allowed to do it. I refer you to Mandrakeusers.org for an example here http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=23360
Even if you can not filter for SOLVED it will allow others to scan the title and ignore it which is faster.
This is my idea I want to be paid in aussie dollars (joke)
it's not exactly your idea. about once a month someone suggest that, and each time we tell them that it already exists. and the fact that it already exists, and you don't know this, implicitly means that it's not a feature that anyone will use....
and making mods do it? that's just not fair on us! no really... there's a LOT of threads.. and we have to evaluate EVERY single one for being solved?? that is just not workable in a free and open environment like LQ.org.
Chris
Good stuff now I have your attention I refer you to what I regard is un SOLVED my idea. I totally agree it may not be my idea I was joking but I keep on it because, the idea has great merit.
2) oops only just noticed the ANSWERED button just tested it but I don't see any change to the title or what am I supposed to see?
I am not ashamed to show this link that I have now clicked on ANSWERED but I don't see any difference ? http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=294690
No change that my poor eyesight can spot to title or ICON to left .....what am I looking for?
(2) would I be correct in assuming this ANSWERED button is only available to the original poster......yes I know it may sound arrogant to assume the poster is happy........but I have another idea.....oh no......that if the original poster does not put SOLVED or show ANSWERED after a week (?) then anyone who answered gets the power.......
I repeat tho that the Mdk forum is so bloody easy it stares at simple beings like me saying .....this thread needs no reply. Yes I know the original poster at Mdk has to modify the title and yes not everyone will be as courteous as your esteemed self. But it would speed up searching zero posts

aus9, the difference after you have clicked "answered" would be that on the thread view page the thread will have an "A" instead of a "U". That bit was removed as *no one* used the feature. I really does sound good in theory, but in reality < 5% used it, making it much less functional than you may imagine. We're still open to ideas on the topic, but keep in mind that we did implement it and no one used it.
This is a great idea!
I still being a learning newbie had looked at the posts just as you stated.. I don't know that, and moved on. Now I look at them with a different eye, can I research them and point someone in the right direction. I even found some questions on items I have already learned and was able (hopefully) to help.
I will continue to troll for items I can research and help with through the 0 replies, as a thank you to all that have helped me get this far
I recognized that the automatic bumping of Zero Reply threads creates a high 'traffic' in the 'View new posts' link. Is that right?
In this case I would plead to return to the 'old style', that separates 'New' from 'Zero reply' threads.
I appreciate the background of this thread to encourage more members to show interest in these threads, but the automatic bumping forces me to filter again threads that I have already considered to be not my field.

In the end, a *super* low percentage of threads will actually be bumped, and they will be bumped in a manner that spreads them out timewise so the impact as far as seeing threads multiple times will really be extremely minimal.
