Some of the threads created in General have disappointed me. I do not believe slander of gender, sect, or anything that singles out any type of people is beneficial to LQ. I will give most members credit of not being induced into an all out flame war.

If people do have the urge to express these type of views would it not be more appropriate to use LQ Blog.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. It is most annoying to visit a help site such as this only to be bogged down in issues which are not Linux related. If people with to express non-Linux opinions or opine on non-Linux topics there are other forums and place in the Internet universe which are more appropriate.

The General forum is specifically intended as a non-technical, not-necessarily-Linux discussion area. As long as a thread topic does not violate the LQ Rules, members are free to start threads on whatever topic they'd like.... as such, there clearly are no guarantees that what one person considers to be a worthwhile topic will be viewed as being equally worthy by others. (Note that if anyone feels that the thread itself (or any individual posts) run contrary to the LQ rules, please report it by clicking on the "Report" button in the lower right hand corner of the post. Similarly, if you see posts that seem to be off-topic, please report those as well so that the appropriate moderator can move the thread.)

More generally, if one considers the discussions within the General forum to be insufficiently interesting/worthwhile, there's nothing that requires that person to spend time reading them. Instead, one could just visit the technical forums, and conveniently bypass the non-technical threads.

I just feel the need to say one more thing and that would be a response to Mr. acid_kewpie and few other Lq members regarding my thread Women? in General forum.I will post a link which will show you what a good communication could do and what you will see are Croatian women and men who visited forum.hr,maybe the most popular forum in Croatia,country where I come from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un4c_...&feature=email

As J.W. mentions, the General forum is specifically meant for non-technical discussion. That being said, please do report any thread you feel is in violation of LQ rules. While we have no problems with non-technical discussion in General, we certainly will not tolerate "slander" of any kind. Also note that we make it extremely easy to completely ignore General. The options are in your UserCP. Thanks for the feedback.
