There ought to be a "Linux Printing" forum

In the same way that LQ has a linux-networking forum, there ought to be a linux printing forum. It is an ongoing problem with linux and it would make sense to group all those posts together.

IMHO, printing is not nearly the issue it was a few years ago---to be sure, there are some special topics--eg support for profiles in something like GIMP.

I've done ~ 5 Linux installs in the last 2 years, and printing was not a significant issue with any....

You are most fortunate. While I agree it's not the problem it used to be, neither is networking. But when it goes bad, it really goes bad.

I've done 10 linux installs in the past two years, and printing was a problem in half of them ... although only today has it been absolutely maddening.

Feel free to share my pain. The exact problem is here:

Agreed!
Perhaps Printing & Scanning. They seem to go hand and hand.

cwizardone -- I like your printing and scanning idea. It casts a bigger net, and both are problematic peripherals ...
