Should 'SOLVED' threads appear in zero-reply threads?
 

I was wondering whether SOLVED threads should appear on the "Zero-reply threads" page. As far as I can see, marking your thread as 'SOLVED' is so that other people with similar problems know that your thread contains a solution, and the 'zero-reply threads' page is used by members to find threads that need answering. If this is the case, then it doesn't seem to make much sense in displaying threads which are both, as they are advertising a thread containing a solution in the place where people look for unsolved problems.

Admittedly, this is only going to happen if someone solves their own problem and doesn't double-post, but it might be worth considering.

That... was a good point well made. However, if you search for "solved zero reply" in LQ Suggestions and Feedback, there's nothing in the first 10 or so posts, after which I gave up. (There are actually relevant posts further down, I'll scroll further next time :D)

Is there anywhere you can see the 'similar threads' list before you post?

Well, there is a "similar threads" button in page where you form the question.

BTW, the similar threads tab which you saw at the bottom of this
page isn't too useful IMO, it seldom shows the relevant and timely
threads.

Yeah, I've noticed that before, but this time it seemed to be far better than searching for keywords.

In qtcenter forum, I have noticed that when you type the question, the
similar threads "automatically" get listed in front of you. You are not required
to click anywhere there for the same.

I find this feature to be quite helpful w.r.t the "newbies" who seldom
search before they post.

This is something I've considered adding in the past, so it's possible you'll see it some time after the next code update.

If you solve your own problem, why not post the answer to the problem as a followup? And if you are creating the thread with the problem already solved, why not split it into a question/problem/issue, and an answer/solution/reply? Then it would not be a zero-reply thread.

I think this thread was regarding those people who rarely follow up
their posts and are just the fly by posters.

I think the similar threads should have a "show more threads" option.
Mouse-over can be improved too.
