Shockwave-flash viewer required

Okay, I've searched the archives here and elsewhere related to 64-bit Linux flash plugins for mozillan browsers, and the common wisdom seem to be somewhere in the range of "you can't get there from here". Yeah, apparently I can do some wild contortions to maybe get a 32 bit browser installed, but that is a lame solution. Given the number of linux users who come here, there has to be a pretty high percentage that are similarly afflicted, so I can't help wondering why LQ would have a flash object of some sort (can't see it so I don't know what it is) on their page(s). Every time I go to a new page, I have to dismiss a dialog box that tells me I need a plugin (that is apparently unavaiable). That is getting old fast, and surely some advertiser is expecting people to see their stuff. It would be nice if, for now, LQ could have their sponsors use non-flash screen elements.

There, I've vented, and I feel better now. Thanks for listening.

You could try using:
Gnash - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation (FSF)
http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/

The Debian package ate least supports:
alpha amd64 arm hppa i386 ia64 kfreebsd-i386 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc

So you could probably build it from source for other distros.

We held out longer than almost every site, but with even Google allowing flash now it was getting to be a losing battle. There are a variety of solutions for you, from Gnash to installing an extension that blocks flash code. Note that this is in no way Linux related, flash doesn't work on any 64-bit platform, including Windows XP with IE.

Thanks. I think I'll give Gnash a spin.

Gnash works. At least, I don't get any more dialog boxes popping up on each page load. Thanks for the advice, Jeremy.
