rules for advertising

I am starting a site on Slackware and would like to know what the rules are for posting information on personal webpages. Is it allowed?

Thanks

What exactly do you mean? You are allowed to publish everything, as long as you do not violate your countrie's laws.

He's talking about posting it on this site to link others back to his. And no, it is not allowed which this is clearly stated in our rules. If your going to create a thread to only promote your site, it will be closed and if your persistent, you can lose privileges to this site.

Regards.

Put a discreet link in your sig.

Oh, and this is moved to the Website Suggestions & Feedback forum as it's a question about LQ.

Are links to LQ site in my home page allowed?
Advice to the above NewLinuxSiteCreator: take a look at www.thelinuxbox420.com if your Linux info is less (or equal) than there - it's quite useless, you should provide as profound knowledge about Linux as possible. I think there're thousands of "low-linux-knowledge" sites, and only the few provide profound knowledge, like LQ :)

If your site'll contain more than "just an avarage" info about Linux, I'll be glad to advise it to some newbies, who are new to Linux

And by the way: if someone asks to give him necessary page address <- it is allowed. So don't forget to post a mail to me with your new site address

Strictly my 2 cents (the final decision is always up to the site admin): Blatant, aggressive, and active promotion of an outside website will pretty much be guaranteed to be considered advertising. In contrast, a "passive" mention of another site (as in a link in a sig block) usually would be OK. To illustrate, if you start a new thread announcing "HEY CHECK IT OUT - NEW WEBSITE FOR [FILL IN THE BLANK]" in 6 different forums and link to it every chance you get, dude you are simply trying to hijack the LQ audience to draw traffic to your site and that's advertising. OTOH, quietly including a link in your sig block (using the standard font size) typically would be perfectly OK.

If you have questions about the LQ advertising policy, please visit the LQ Advertising link.

Again this is simply my own personal opinion, and the final decision would rest with the site admin -- J.W.
