"Quick Links" and Google APIs

Hello

Today the "Quick Links" button sometimes does not give the usual drop down menu but changes the main menu bar (to include "New Posts"). Once (no longer) "New Posts" required Google APIs.

Given the choice I would prefer not to have to enable Google APIs to use LQ. I run NoScript in Firefox (3.5.3) and am able to use LQ without enabling any of the domains listed except linuxquestions.org. Would be nice if things stayed that way.

EDIT: just noticed Google APIs have to be enabled for the "B" (bolden) button to work now

Best

Charles

We've been testing using the hosted version of YUI on both Google and Yahoo for performance reasons. I've switched it back to an LQ hosted version for now, but can't 100% guarantee it will stay that way long term.

++++1 from me. And for the last few days, I was blaming my browser :/ when the [tags] buttons weren't working!

FWIW, while I do agree with the privacy aspect, simplicity and performance would dictate going with the hosted solution. Hundreds of thousands of sites use the YUI javascript framework. Each site serving their own copy when there's a centrally located version available from the project maintainers that is minified and high cached is fairly inefficient (which doesn't even address issues such as security patches being applied very quickly to the central version and who knows when to some of the local versions). I'm still very open to feedback on this topic though.

That should be enough to keep it the way it is.

I beg to differ, there. The only performance issue I encounter is when my browser is re-directed from the immediate page I'm viewing with my oldest (PIII) PC.
