Problems with SEARCH
Hi! This goes to the coders behind the webpage. On several occasions, I haven't been able to use the search engine to search for any topics. I put in the search string, click the search button, and then nothing happens. I tried this in Firefox, and Mozilla. In both, I get the same results. Is there something wrong, with my computer, or is there an error on the page (I hope not :))

I've never heard of this happening before. Has anyone else seen this?

Always works for me, in any browser I test it in.

Unless it takes a really really long time to return results, I haven't been able to get any results from searches either.
I've tried mozilla and firefox on both FC2 and Windows, T1 and dial-up. Of course, I tried searching one more time before I posted, and it worked. Usually when I have problems I get an hour glass and the status bar says ...waiting for www.linuxquestions.org with no search results displayed, even after a few minutes. |
I have only ever seen problems when the database hasn't been well :) Otherwise it works in Mozilla, Firefox and IE6 on Windows and Linux.

686plus, while the search server does get a little bogged down during peak times, even then the max I see is about 8 seconds. The next time this happens, can you send me as much info as possible, including:
- exact time - Browser and OS - Exact search terms and options selected thanks, --jeremy |
will do

Hi
Was going to start a new thread but then i found this one. Im experiencing the same problems as marghorp with the search. I am using firefox 1.0, and run slack 10.0 (the same occurs in my lfs distro). Normally my search string doesn't contain more than 3 words or use characters such as '+' etc . As far as exact time i would say this happens a lot of time, today for instance at 15.00 (location madrid). I think it may be a problem with tabbed browsing, im going to experiment a bit more to see if this is the case. Another thing i've noticed is that this happens a lot more when using the search button for the whole site as opposed to a single forum Example situation. -start browser session, go to LQ -enter a search string, click go (sometimes have to click more than once, as seems to not respond the frst time) -open new tab, go to another page -click on the lq tab, the page has 'done' at the bottom, no search has been conducted. It may also be useful to point out im using an +-512kb adsl line. I've used lq for a couple of years now and have only noticed this problem recently, maybe the last 3 months or so. edit: While im here just thought i'd add a thank you for LQ, for me one of the most useful sources of information on the web. |
The search is also very slow for me. If a search will work at all, it takes about 30 seconds on DSL to even begin, but the rest of the site works great.
