Hello, I tried making my first post today in the server section, waited for the moderator approval, the post appeared. Then I tried editing it, and on saving the edit I got an error, the post was no longer there.
I am not sure if I should repost, wait, or contact a moderator. Maybe it is not possible to edit your post if it's the first one?
The title started with x11vnc, can't remember the rest exactly.
Anyways, Hello!

Welcome to LQ!
If you click on your name to the left of the post a menu will appear. One of the menu items is Find more posts by linux_wait. You click on that and you'll see if you should repost or not. (I think you should).

Following some guidelines that have been pointed out to me recently, regarding thread closure, here's some advice I would like to pass on to future new members.
Your first few posts will have to be approved before they appear. Once your post appears, do not try to edit it, or it may disappear. Don't panic, it's nothing personal, just the way the system handles posts for new users. It seems to get confused about your new (edited post) being resubmitted, but needing approval, but already having a prior approval... result is post may disappear.
If it's important to you, wait a while, maybe an hour, make sure your edited post is still not there, then re-post. After a few posts you will be able to post without approval and edit with no trouble.
Given this, I would keep my first posts short, just in case.
One more thing that I got wrong on my first visit: Don't be in a hurry, get acquainted with the forum structure. I assumed 'Linux - Newbie' was the correct location for my first post regarding any topic. If you are just wanting to introduce yourself, the correct section is buried (from a newcomer's point of view), in:
Non-*NIX Forums->General->LinuxQuestions.org Member Intro.
If you do have a question about you first post, or anything in general relating to the site, then the correct place is: Non-*NIX Forums->General.
Hopefully I have all this correct.

This isn't categorically true. The first few posts a member makes are subject to a wide variety of check that may result in the post needing to be approved. This impacts <3% of legitimate new posts.

The edits are subject to the same checks as above, to prevent a spammer from making an innocuous first post and then editing it as a way to circumvent the checks.

Please do not do this, as it puts an additional burden on the mod team to chase down and close the duplicate threads.

Linux - Newbie is fine for almost any first time question that is Linux-related, but all "Hello" type threads should indeed go in LinuxQuestions.org Member Intro.

All questions or comments pertaining to LQ should go in this forum, LQS&F. Non-*NIX Forums->General is for any non-technical content.
This happens sometimes, you try and post to clarify something, and all you end up doing is digging a deeper hole. With so many errors, should I just delete the post?
