Post in more than one forum?
 

If i have a question that I feel belongs in more than one forum, it would be great to check-mark upto three or four different ones, to help with the exposure of my question (and with subsequent answers)

I might support this if it was a "virtual" thread and linked to a single thread solving the problem.

Otherwise, I'd rather there was a way to automate the deletion of the same thread posted in multiple forums...

While the idea is good, it would never work. Peoples would mark all options available and make the forum a big mess. Some does not even care to read the description of each forum... it's common to see peoples asking questions about Linux in the Website suggestions forums.

Again, the idea is good and it sounds even better with the pljvaldez idea of linking them, but in reality, I highly doubt it would work...

If a thread fits in more than one forum, perhaps it belongs in a "General" or the top level forum instead of a sub-forum. All the same members browse the forums, having it in multiple forums would get messy, what would prevent everyone from having their thread visible in all forums, then what's the point of having multiple forums. If that were the case, we should just have one gigantic forum without sub-forums.

Don't forget that you can choose the most appropriate forum and then tag the thread with additional topics.

While I can see the advantages of the OP's suggestion, it is way way too open to abuse/problems. Besides, the people who are best able to answer you question probably hang out in the forums they are good at answering questions in. Besides, the 0 reply feed doesn't discriminate about forums.

Yes, the Virtual Thread was the type of idea that I had, so that clicking the thread in Software would bring the visitor to the same list of replies as would clicking on the thread in Wireless (or whatever). If they were actually different threads, it would surely get messy.

But this tagging thing seems to be a good way to have the thread appear in search results, and that may be enough. Yeah, the hijacked thread was a great example of keeping things relevant (or, in this case, not relevant)

yep- that's why it's not allowed (commonly referred to as double posting) :)

with the virtual threading, it would be a bit confusing for newbies, they might be inclined to double post.

I think one of the flaws with this idea is it puts too much emphasis on the thread, rather than the forum.
