possible inaccurate tutorial

hello,

i've been looking for a some tutorial about rsyncing and I found this on LQwiki. I don't know what an exact author's intention was, but using rsync -e ssh on the local system doesn't make much sense. It does the job, but over the network. Or am I getting it wrong?. thanks in advance for the reply.

cheers!

It should work i suppose, but its certainly less than optimal on a local backup.

As it is a wiki, you could fix the tutorial or at least amend it so that it makes more sense.

You are partially wrong. This option is actually ignored by rsync in that specific case. It tells what remote shell to use but both source and directories being local, ssh isn't used so there is no difference in processing.
As already stated, the whole point of wikis if for anyone to correct or improve published pages so feel free to remove that meaningless option.
