Personal Feed
I just started using Sage and no longer think that feeds are painless. So... I installed the LinuxQuestions.org feed. I love it. Sage takes the "pain" I was previously experiencing with RSS away and I think it's a wonderful feed setup for LQ.
However... It would be really great if we could be supplied with a feed that monitors your My LQ section for responses to threads that you are subscribed to. This way, you would have the ability to quickly check the status of your subscribed threads while working on other things (since I'm too lazy to keep a tab opened, go back, hit refresh, etc. etc. etc.). |
it'd be nice, but the cpu hit that would take could be huge... your client sits there all day long churning away requesting the latest feed evey few minutes, and the LQ serach server has to search the whole database for a single user. ouch. that just can't scale... it's fine all the while people have to not be lazy and click the links when they want it to be there, but automating it would be a whole new level. And to go further, what if you put that feed on your homepage? and you get slashdotted for some unrelated reason? our search server dies in minutes, courtesy of your homepage.

Good point.

It's an interesting idea and probably doable with the correct level of optimization and caching. If you want to put it in the bug tracker as a feature request, it's something we can look into in the future. Thanks for the feedback.

that's what you get for repeating previous drunk discussions you have with site owners... they forget what they even told you in the first place!

I'm sure I don't know what you mean ;) Let me clarify. With the current technology and resource we have, it would not be possible. With some additional hardware and coding time, it's likely an attainable task for us.
