one complaint about new look. (OP name below subject)
Haven't been here for a couple of weeks, so was pleasantly surprised at the new look. One thing I think is wrong though is, when you're looking at a given forum where it lists all the threads (subject line, with the OP's name below that subject text), it's somewhat unpleasant to have the OP's name listed *below* the subject line.
When my eyes scan down the page looking for interesting subjects, they constantly have to play a mental game of hopscotch skipping over usernames while reading subject lines. I'm not particularly interested in who the OP was. The subject is what most of use focus on when looking for an interesting thread to reply to. I think the OP's name should come after (but on the same line as) the subject. Maybe separated by a bullet or a small graphic or something. Thanks. |
This was a problem for me, too, at first.
I think it's just a matter of mental adjustment, though. I like having the OP stand out, more attached to the thread than before in a separate column. -- Shade |
It can be slightly distracting at first, but since the formatting (size, colour, font?) is so different in the end it shouldn't be too big a problem.

That's my point. If it's "slightly distracting", and it takes a while to mentally adjust to it, why have it that way to begin with? LQ could just as easily have the name come *after* the subject line (maybe in parentheses).
That way, you'd fit more on the page, *and* it would be easier to quickly scan with your eyes with no adjustment period. |
Most members I've discussed this with like the new layout better in this regard. I'd be interested in more feedback though.

Well, I do find the font size of the new posts to be rather too large in proportion to the rest (meaning that changing my browser settings to make is smaller makes the rest of that font sizes too small to read).
Have a look at fedoraforum.org and see how they compare - don't mean to say they should be identical, but I ind that forum more comfortable to read. |

I managed to sort it out using some custom CSS. Got rid of some other annoying vB3 defects in the process, if you want pop me an email and I can send you the stylesheet and instructions :)

I don't mind having it display this way and it's not too hard to get used to, but it does seem a little distracting to have it in the same column and I'd prefer it in another column or somewhere else (in parentheses after the title, even).
