Nonpermanent links in messages for subscribed threads

There is a small problem with emails that warn us about new replies in a thread we subscribe.

The mail show us a link that will point to the *newest post* in that thread, although we may have received that message for another post, much before the newest one.

For example, a message contains the text:

Code:

Dear [username],

[someone] has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to
entitled - Bla bla bla bla- in the Programming forum of
LinuxQuestions.org.

This thread is located at:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/
programming-9/bla-bla-bla-bla-1234567890-new/

I discovered this when I wanted to reread previous posts in a discussion, and decided to use the links in messages received by their posts, and it did not work as expected.

I expected these message to have the links like

Code:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/
programming-9/bla-bla-bla-bla-1234567890/
page2.html#post5678901

which are permanent.

I think the permament links are better because we will not miss posts by not always checking if the previous post is already read, like I saw anohter user recently doing, probably due this detail. Mail messages are permanent, have words directed to specific facts, so should contain permanent links.

Thanks for the feedback. The link will always bring you to the newest post in that thread that you haven't seen yet, which is the intended functionality.

Intended?! But this throws away the possibility of reusing the mail messages at any other time in the future! I am in a thread with many long posts, and this makes it much easier to get lost around the discussion, as I did a couple of times - but the mail messages did not help me to get back to rails.

The mail message text is from a specific post - shouldn't the link also be for that specific post (the same)? The first time it will work as the current link, but will continue working if we visit it other times, always showing the same post. It seems an improvement, for this argument.

A smaller counter argument to the current links: if the link is always the same, why send another mail message with it? It is there already! Lets just favorite that address... (the answer is to tell that another reply was just made... but the link is the same)
