newbie problems with LQ
I'm trying to figure out how to use LQ? What are the icons next to the posts (not smilies), envelop, envelop with light bulb, etc. If not one is answering can I relist the problem in another place? Am I asking these questions (this post) in the right place? Do I need to re-enter forums to see responses to my post?
Thanks, squir |
found key to icons
found my own answer - thanks anyway - I just keep bumbling thru

For others having the same problem, there is a legend at the bottom of every page. The FAQ also has a lot of useful information on how to use the site.

every page, jeremy? This one doesn't seem to. But I think that each forum has the key at the bottom. :)

Well, every page that has the potential to have an icon has a legend. Since there are no informational icons per say in threads, no legend is necessary.

:D it was a little confusing when you said "every page" :D that's all.
Just me being a nitpicker. :D titanium_geek |
some points:
1) no legend at the bottom of search results pages 2) no legend for thread title post icons; perhaps they are self-evident, but I did wonder where they came from until I figured it out 3) I still don't know the meaning of the downward pointing arrow (with elbow) on a red(hot) envelope. 4) The little white on blue checkmark is not described anywhere...fortunately I once left the mouse dawdle over it and the tooltip appeared...aha! I subscribed to this once upon a time...now what does that mean?... Suggestions: 0) If you use tooltips for some icons, please use them for ALL icons so one expects them. The envelopes don't seem to have tooltips unless I've posted in the thread, so I didn't even realize the tooltips and the icons were related! 1) In addition to tooltips, make every icon a link to a legend/key page for ALL icons. Tooltips are a little slow to pop up. One has to sort of know that they are there, otherwise one may not loiter the mouse long enough for them to display. 2)a legend at the BOTTOM of a page is unlikely to be discovered, especially when it's only at the bottom of forum pages instead of search result pages (you do encourage users to search first, right?) |
