Newbie, member, when does one become the other?
OK, this is not exactly an Earth shattering question, just curious. I notice that some have 'newbie' under their names and others have 'member'. When (how) does a newbie become a member? Not that I am even remotely ready to leave the 'newbie' camp, just curious.
It's related to the number of posts. When you reach a certain number of posts, you graduate from one category to another.
I don't remember the numbers required to move from one category to the next.
I don't like this system... I think upgrading member [Quote "status" Quote} encorages posting for the perpose of getting the label and not really helping anyone. Hmmm, thinking (this is one more for me!!!)
I used to go on the G4 Tech TV forum ( http://g4tv.com ) because I liked the show and it used to be about helping people with computer problems. I learned, however, that it was just a race for post numbers and who could get a "witty" answer out first.
I don't visit G4 anymore and found that this forum was far more mature. I like to have fun like everyone else, but please, keep your posts sincear...
* After 5000 posts you can choose between Guru and LQ Addict
At 10,000 posts I hear they make a bronze cast of your testicles and fashion a sort of "Linux Oscar"
Honestly though.....pay little attention to the tag applied to the name, a quick search of the users posts will show their level of expertise much better.
