New Threads

Hey :)

I was just thinking of the Programming section, it can be hard at times to go through and find questions on specific languges... SO, how hard would it be to split this off to sub-categories as I reckon it'd be better for those that want C advice to be able to browse C instead of everything?

Anyone else agree?

Stay tuned....... ;)

Cheers trickykid :)

Or, a new convention could be adopted: Explicitely tell everyone what language you're using in the thread title. So, rather than 'how do I do this?' you could have 'how do I do this in C++?', or even; 'C++: how do I do this?'. So many combinations...

:D

Yeah good idea BUT you'd end up with a forum full of this:

C++: How do I do this
C: What am i meant to do
Java: Why is this so slow
C: Ummmmm
C++: K running out of ideas...

Whereas if you had this:

C
C++
Java

You could look in the particular subforum that related to what your programming in... true?

This is just what I feel would be really handy - good reference rather than sorting through the millions of LQ's hehe :)

Having a specific forum will not stop anyone from posting extremely bad titles. Check any of the other forums and see what I mean.

But at least if the title had whatever it is the program is, we'd have a hint.

I agree with this. For example, I am interested in C++, and every time I am in the programming form, I have to sort through a lot of questions before I find one in C++ that interests/is informative for me. So, just like the game forum under the software forum, and various distro forums under a single forum, it will be better to have some sub-forums for languages like C/C++/java etc.,.

Is any-one listening?

acid_kewpie 01-26-2004 09:40 AM

yes we are listening, and just like trickykid originally said:

stay tuned..... ;)

I guess there are two issues at hand. First and obvious is the new forums for various languages and the other is for putting terrible titles.

Even though I am in favour of new sub-forums, the first problem at hand is the title of threads. They are very misleading :D

I guess if ppl use appropriate titles, then the need for new forums does not arise. Just my two...

AMMullan 01-26-2004 11:18 AM

Yes and no :D At the time of posting this message there was 23945 messages in the Programming section - would you go through that many to find something on C :)

LOL don't think of me as lazy cos i'm not, but I just thought that if you broke it up into sub-categories you could have two advantages:

1. Being able to go through the maybe 5000 or so posts for C rather than the 23945
2. Being able to, at any time, see what most people use/post questions about.

LinuxLala 01-26-2004 11:20 AM

Yes that would be nice. Yours was a noble suggestion :)

Cheers
