New LinuxQuestions.org Contest

I would like to announce the first LinuxQuestions.org contest. The contest officially starts on August first, but those who actually read this forum will get a little jump;) The member who refers the most new members in between now and the end up September will win a free T-shirt from the LinuxQuestions.org store. We have a new page to help you refer members:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/refer.php

PLEASE do not cheat (we will know and you will be disqualified) and DO NOT spam people. Lets keep it clean! Thanks and good luck!

BTW, you do not have to use the page above. Just make sure the user signs up at:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...referrerid=xxx
where xxx is your userid (you can visit the above page for an example).

This is a great way to get LQ out there..I've told all the people in my LUG at work about LQ but most of them haven't had "time" to check it out yet, now all of the people I've referred in our LUG have come into my office to ask me what LQ is about etc.....great idea.

Now that the contest has officially started I have setup a page where you can see the current standings. As you can see if you click on a user it will show the username, post count and last active date for all referrals. This will make is extremely easy to spot fake referrals, so *please* don't bother. Thanks and have fun!

Do you log IP too?

Yes, but only I can see that for security reasons.

I enjoyed it! Although I personally did not participate (I prefer to point people this way in person :)) I think it is a great way to attract attention. Don't forget, though, that this is not the only way to get people to look here - if you write in to a (computer related) magazine, don't forget to plug this site! Overall, though, I think it is a potentially good incentive! Keep it up!
