New Distro Forum - Suse Linux
Another distribution has joined LinuxQuestions.org. Please welcome Suse Linux. This forum has been in the works for a while now and I know it's been much anticipated. Thanks for your patience. Participating in the forum will be Casper, Ginny and Ross (as well as a couple others). I'd like to give a special thanks to Marissa from Novell for working with me on this and Sam Hiser for putting me in touch with the right people to make it finally happen (which also means thanks to Tom for putting me in touch with Sam). Welcome to LQ.

Welcome aboard!

This is excellent news! Welcome to LQ, Suse. As Jeremy mentioned, this is a very highly anticipated event and I look forward to Suse coming aboard. -- J.W.

I'm very pleased to see my old flame here, too :)
SuSE was with me from 4.x to 7 ;) Cheers, Tink |
Finally, that other thread can be closed and unstickied ;) Glad to see this here.
|
Congratulations
This really helps consolidate the community. Lots of good SuSE people around that need this kind of support.
|
wow, this has been a looong time coming. Now all we need is Gentoo forums! Like that will ever happen, those arrogant.. ahem, excuse me.
|
Umm, Jeremy, could you give us some details of what you worked out with the SuSE / Novell people? I mean, they have or had their forum (fora?) going as well, how can the use of both be optimized by us forum users? Did you decide on a special focus for each site or are they just going on parallel tracks or are you even going to merge?
Whatever, I'm glad you could get a SuSE-forum realized here :). P.S.: What about sorting the fora(? ) alphabetically in the menu of this site? It's sort of, hmm unusual, to see a (presumably) historically grown list ... :D, but that is not necessarily furthering search ;). |
Glad to see Novell/SuSE get involved.
SuSE is an excellent and stable distribution. I use it daily. |
Thank God you finally got one! I got so tired of seeing those
SuSE users whining about not having a forum... Good work, Jeremy!!! |

Nah, its good to add a major distro like Suse. Even though I don't use it, everytime I've tried it out, I liked it better than some of the others out there. :) |
Now somebody has just got to start a post in there
asking how to pronounce it. Maybe Drew can do a short audio file like Linus did for Linux. I can hear it now, "Hi, my name's Drew and I pronounce SuSE as Susie!" just the same as I do, cause I'm from the South! or get Tink to do it with a German humpf!!! and then we'll have to get some of them Brits, or some guy from down under to say it...man, we could have a lot of fun with this. Nothing like trying to pronounce Slackware... |

Many distro's that participate here also have a forum available on their site. There is still a huge value to the distro on many levels. As for the sorting, they are alpha on the forumhome page, but by the order they joined on the distro page. --jeremy |

Who knows if I'm right though, everyone is gonna call it how they want. The only thing that does bother me though is when people mispronounce Linux though ;) |
Some ppl pronounce linux "lie - nix".
