New Category - Virtual Machines
 

Just a thought, and I am not sure if there would be enough content to warrant it, but...

Would it be possible to have a category for Virtual Machines... to deal with issues related to software such as VMWare and Virtual PC (Microsoft, formerly Connectix)?

Only I have an issue related to such articles, and am unsure where to post it - I am plumping for Software and hoping it is not OT.

Really, Software is the best place for the question. Unless it deals with something else specifically, in which case put it in the appropriate forum.

I don't think that there are sufficient questions to warrant it.

I would like to explore the Virtual machines conversation.

I have recently installed Virtual PC for the express purpose of trying to familiarize myself with Linux. Trying two new products at once certainly gives me more places to look for the source of the inevitable problem, I know. All discussions about VPC would be of great interest to me. Obviously there are several lifetimes' worth of discussion on Linux here. I'm starting in on those too.

I would be interested if XEN were to be included, having weaned myself from Windows hosted VMware.

I have just read in the latest 'Linux Format' that you can set up a Virtual Machine under XEN with 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 virtual cpus even if you only have one cpu on your machine - is that cool or what?

At this point I don't think a dedicated forum is needed for this. Let me touch base with a couple of people though, as I think if we could get reps from Xen, VMware, etc to participate it might be worth exploring.

Virtualization is one of the key technology trends for 2006-2007. It would be great if we could have a section dedicated to Virtualization so the knowledge base in products such as VMWare, XEN, etc. would grow. We could then learn about the challenges being encountered out there not only setting up a Virtual environment, but the day to day management issues as well as any support "gotchas".
