moderator permissions : close, move, ...

hi guys,

again thanks for the great job with this site... LQ rocks!!
today i realized something and i would like to suggest a modification...
AFAIK, the moderators have basically two "permissions" : move or close a thread...
and it is clear that they can only do that in each forum that they are responsible for.. (sorry for the bad english..)
today i saw, in this forum, trickykid writing the he reported a mistake from someone...
would not be better to allow moderators move the threads, independent if they are responsible for the sub-forum?? you could leave the "close" permission restricted to the "owner" but the "move" could be shared with other moderators.. so you could be clean during the LinuxWorld.. ; - )
what do you guys think about that??

regards

slackie

Moderators do have a little more power in which I'm not going to disclose but we are limited to our own forums, except moving threads to another forum. I think its fine the way it is now. Most of the time we communicate daily or with other mods to get things done out of our own forums, etc.

lol, you're so secretive about these "powers" mods have. ;)

I think it is good to limit the powers to certain reigns of responsibility. Although it was kindof frustrating when a mod isn't online for the area the problem is in. But my real reason for posting this... a question I have that is way too offtopic to post anywhere else.

If you post something in a technical forum -- like linux-security -- that is offtopic and gets moved to General does your post count go down? :)

See I warned you it was dumb. It is just something I have been wondering about. I usually am careful to place my posts in the right area so I have never gotten to test this first hand. It was just something that occured to me one day and has become a mental itch I can't seem to scratch.

Edit: I would also be interested in knowing if it works in the reverse. Someone posts a technical question that gets moved from General to its proper forum.

This may seem weird but one of the reasons I got into *nix was because I like to ask questions and experiment -- which the open systems encourage. Unfortunatelly there is no polite way to test this situation for these questions. I am reduced to asking.:D

When we move to General, it is suppose to not count that post but currently I do believe it still does. Its something that's been brought up to Jeremy and I think on his todo to fix. Its not really a big priority since its just the few random threads that get moved and so on...

lol, please don't think I would consider this a priority in any respect. I was just curious. So, I am guessing (likewise) the post count isn't incremented when a thread is moved out of general. It is just something I wondered about and knew it was too small an issue to ever figure out just from observation. Thanks for the reply. :)
