Message of the forum

Hello, hope it's the proper place to put where this thread.

I would like to send some private message to some users of this forum but i don't know if it's possible, i took a look to the instructions though i didn't find anything.

It's a quite embarassing question to make it here but, well, until you don't ask for you won't know. So,

it's possible to send private message in here?

And, i was asking to a Guru if i can reply to thread even if i'm not good as gurus.

Thanks,

Davide

Incomplete information can be misleading.
Private messages are enabled after a normal user posts a certain number of posts.

To be more precise, to have PMs enabled you must either become a contributing member or have more than 150 posts.

I am curious about the rationale behind the requirement of 150 posts before being able to send and receive private messages. I cannot see any advantages in the policy. Someone please enlighten me about the real or perceived benefits. I am not complaining, just curious.:)

The forum has several user-groups, that are not the same as the ones you see in your status field. There are new members (0 posts), members (<150 posts) and senior members (>=150 posts). PMs are only available to senior members to prevent PM spamming.

Thanks for the info.
Although 150 posts may be a little high for that purpose, but that is life.:)

It was never the intention to enable PM's here at LQ. The main focus of the forum is to provide help to members, which becomes useful to the community at large because all information is public. Private messages run counter to that. Some long time members requested the functionality for valid reasons, so the decision was made to enable it only for Senior Members, who would be very unlikely to spam and very likely to know that PM's should not be used for question/answer but for discussions that in intended to be private.
