Hi,

@aus9: Earlier in this very long thread Jeremy mentioned a per-thread statistic that might be implemented. This way you can see which post was the best rep for that specific thread. That is assuming that people will actually start clicking on the appropriate buttons.....

And there is the X out of Y people found this post helpful, which could also be an indicator.

Can you give the screen shot of your page? I can not seem to find anything on the page. I have opted out as well but at least I should be able to see it on the page if it is there.

I've included a screenshot of my LQ UserCP page. Below New Subscribed Threads: and Latest Infractions Received you can find the Latest Reputation Received.

But you also have 4000+ posts and are here since xy years. There has to be some merit in this .

Hi,

In my opinion it means that nobody has given reputation to you since the start of the new system. I had to wait some time for somebody to give me rep. I just gave you rep on that post with the screenshot. Check if it gets listed please.

Kind regards,

Eric

Uups, I lost 5 points since friday (start was 50 now it is 45) but nothing is indicated in my CP. Bug or unknown infraction during absence?

<edit> Now increased to 52 via the "one time rep bump based on some metrics from the old "Thanks" system". </edit>

I'm a bit frustrated with this system. The more I think of it, the more unfair and non-motivating it seems. Mostly because with the Thanks system, for example, you just have a number that you can compare to your post count. Also, if someone thanks you, you get thanked no matter what. We mostly help newbies here and getting less rep for helping them is downright unfair and discouraging for me!

I think that for this to have a hope of being fair, all the numbers need to be preset. For example:

Add Rep: 1 point
Helpful: 0.5 points
Unhelpful: -0.1 points
Remove Rep: -0.5 points

or something like that. Note that because the same amount of rep is added/removed no matter who pushes the button, it's a good way to see how many people you helped. Also, because the full "Add Rep" is 1 point, it can be directly compared to your post count.

Maybe. But who would you rather take notice of, if we were giving you contradictory answers? Me (rep: 58) or Alien Bob (registered Sept. 2005; posts: 3284; rep: 46)?

@MTK358 If you want it this much balanced you'd have to mention also the date the repping system was enabled as a base line. Isn't this getting out of relation for what is intended?

Alien Bob for anything firewall-related . In all other circumstances I'd try to carefully evaluate and give rep after the solution is confirmed as appropriate -- I do come back and post results (and success).

You would be better choosing Alien Bob for everything to do with Slackware, unless Patrick Volkerding disagrees with him.
