Did "Did you find this post helpful?" suddenly stop adding rep? Usually, you can't give reputation to the same post twice, which means you can't both give reputation for a post and mark it helpful. Well, I was just able to rate this post helpful and give rep positive rep (along with a comment) for it. The poster's reputation record now shows only the reputation I added. It does not show the positive rep that should have been added when I rated it helpful.

OK, I remember now. There were a few instances where I marked a post as helpful, then thought it deserves more than that, but then it wouldn't let me add rep.

Yeah I do that a lot. Honestly, I think that clicking "Yes" should give the same amount of rep as when you give a user actual rep.

I think, that there should be a difference betweeen clicking on "Yes" and giving reputation.
For example there are posts that are short, but help the OP to get his problem solved. In this case I would click on "Yes". But if it is a well-written post with a good and complete explanation, I think it deserves more reputation. In that case I give reputation with the reputation-symbol.

I completely agree with TobiSGD, there should indeed be a difference. A lot of posts are just short and although they might point into the right direction to help the OP, they don't clarify what needs to be done in order to solve the problem at hand. On the other hand there are post by more 'seasoned' members that clarify each step and/or part of a command so that the OP learns from the post itself without having to Google or read man pages to understand a solution given. Those types of post merit more reputation in my opinion too for being informative, educational, complete and helpful.

PS: there not only should be a difference, there is a difference. Clicking helpful only ups one rep while using the reputation icon reps a percentage of the reputation of the one giving the rep if I recall correct.

* Phase 2 of the system will probably include some forum specific component, where you have an LQ-wide reputation which can be broken down by on a per forum basis.

I'd like some additional thought and feedback on this. From there we can look into rolling the system out and making additional tweaks. Thanks.
