aldimeneira, you made a very valid point. I also second the general opinion that automated translation is not good enough. For translations to be perfect or near enough, we would need volunteer translators.
And because I am somewhat interested in localization and keep an eye on the indic localization scenario, I am very much aware of all the effort that goes into translating.
You have to understand, there are several fonts availbe for any given language and if LQ uses one font, and a member uses another, then the localized text would be rendered differently. This is just one of the problems.
Again, my views are very limited (indic localization). At the end of the day, the best bet is to localize simple answers. I suggest that instead of adding support for localized forum, how about we localize some threads.
Don't need to localize the entire thread. Read a thread -> find the answer -> localize the answer -> leave out the noise.
The wiki should be able to handle non-latin alphabets fine as it uses unicode (I have in the past used Chinese characters in a page).
I seriously don't think that translating even small portions of threads is feasible - we should just work on the wiki.
and even the wiki should be less important than the translation of LQ articles/tutes. They are static. Then, of course, the wiki. Simple answers should go in the wiki anyway, basics etc.
