Login times out while writing post

Hi

I frequently get this problem

I log in write a post and waffle on a bit

Go to preview the post or submit and my login session has expired so I have to log in again.
I back up the browser but cannot recover the post, because when I get to that screen a refresh occurs and either hangs i.e. doesn't not complete the display properly or refreshes completely and I am looking at an empty text field.

What is the default timeout value on the cookie and how can I alter it?

The default is 15 minutes and it cannot be altered. If you choose the option to browse the board with cookies however, the problem will go away.
