run the following command when logged in as spikedirver
$ usermod -l spikedriver
// this will not update your /home/ directory name (e.g. it will still be /home/spikedirver, so you'll need to change the name of that directory as well).
source: (googled "ubuntu usermod", and it went to 'ubuntu manuals'. Can't post the URL on my first post, evidently)

While you can edit your profile, I doubt you can change your login name because this is how the system identifies you. You can try contacting the administrator(s) and ask for their assistance. You may be told to create a new account as accounts are not usually deleted after a post has been made. I would ask first, though, so that there is no confusion on their part as to why you have multiple accounts.
The only way to change your LQ user name is to email Jeremy (jeremy AT linuxquestions DOT org) and explain why you need the change. This isn't something that we do often, but if your reason is sound he will make the change.
I can't speak for Jeremy, but he did it for me because I made a historical error in choosing my LQ name (I am the 6th Arch Toad, not the 5th). I think your typo will be a similar good reason.
"log in name change" -- where? Everything in this thread up to now is ambiguous. -- 3 mods (moderators) & 2 other members assumed you are talking about your LQ user name; while 1 newcomer assumed you are talking about your user name on some Linux distro. Which is it?
Please do us all the courtesy & kindness of explicitly stating where you are having the problem?

A Linux distro
BTW,
Code:
$ usermod -l spikedriver
won't solve either problem. ... Where did you insert it?
(Loaded question, serious answers only; no Jack Nicholson imitations, please.)
