linux lycoris in reviews!?
 

hi!

i am completely new to linux. i had to install a new os lately (see why ) and decided to take lycoris - competitors were suse, college and mandrake. i decided to do so because of the beautiful name so talk about competence... :D
i had a short look to the review section and didn't find lycoris. is there a special reason to that?
else i am as newbie as one can be to linux. i have a bunch of ms-software that i'd like to go on using and reading the suse-reviews i am quite unsure if i'd simply have a try on suse before i get too much in touch with lycoris. any suggestions? i really need to have a system going, including internet-connection and good graphics software. thursday i have to deliver a big task for my studies and didn't do a **** for it because i was stuck on this pc that won't work. if you read the why-link you know why i am nervous and p*ssed - btw, any good data-recovery software known!? :rolleyes:

sorry for extending this forums content. it's just... i have too many questions to ask! :(

p.s.: is there any software likely wine to be found for free?

As newbie to newbie my first piece of advice is be prepared to take some time deciding on your Linux OS. I started in April with a free version of Mandrake 9.2. Experimented from there with Lindows, SLackware, SUSE, Redhat and finally I am getting settled into Mandrake 10.1. I ended up with Mdk mostly because it seem to do the best job of taking care of the hardware issues by itself. There might be some things you miss in windows but I would be willing to bet that if you stick with Linux you will not have any need for wine in a couple months. You may be tempted to go back to the evil empire once in a while but persistance with Linux community wil pay off.


BTW - this site (linixquestions.org) is pretty much the best info exchange site I have seen.

aren't red hat and slackware quite advanced versions of linux? is it possible to have several linux os beside each other? when i start there is a screen that looks like a os-choosing screen, where the only one at the moment is lycoris lx desktop. did you try suse, too? if not, why?
i may, but - this information is hidden in the "why-link" - i lost all my data. additionally, i have no installation cds here. so i have to do the fundamentalist way... :)
yes, i was impressed of the site's size! and i really need some advicing so this is a quite good "discovery" for me! :)

All reviews are submitted by the mebers. So, unless one of us submits a review of Lycoris there won't be one.

yes, i understand that. actually, that's the point: why does no one write a review? is it that unpopular? if so, why? that's what seemed interesting to me.

I have no idea - since you use it, why not start a trend? If you do, others may follow.

i would like to, but right now i don't feel to have the legitimity to do so - can't even save a file or extract an archive... :mad: i become quite unhappy after a complete day without success. seems i have to go out tonight, too, just to keep me away from this pc... :cry:
