I did not set a time limit on the poll

jeremy 04-22-2016 10:14 AM

If we were to offer this option, what do members think a fair price would be?

Between two and three hundred dollars.

mostlyharmless 04-22-2016 02:19 PM

Replied Unsure because it would depend on the terms and the impact on regular subscribers and non subscribers, if any. It's always nice to have more options. Not to over complicate, but perhaps there might also be different terms for people in different categories, i.e., over 70, veterans etc: just a thought.

There would be no change from the existing Contributing Member program, it would simply be an option to pay one time to be upgraded for the life of LQ. I'm happy to upgrade any veteran who contacts me gratis.

Hi Jeremy...

I would say $100.00. I think more folks might be able to afford it at this level. :)

Regards...

I am happy that this poll and thread did not get forgotten. I kept checking but nobody seemed to post or vote in the poll. I guess not until Jeremy put his magic touch :D.

I still do not know the price range and again that is up to Jeremy. Also maybe some more perks vs a regular subscription might do. I.E. visible avatar, or at least ability to embed video with an [embed] option. Again these are just suggestions, and not strictly a requirement.

I would be also willing to pay $100 or $150 or $200 perhaps. Again, Maybe when we have a good sample from the poll, then we all can debate a price and Jeremy will make the final decision on that.

With the current $35/year price, I think $150 sounds reasonable for a lifetime subscription (possibly with an initial discounted introductory price). Still very much open to feedback, however.

I would be willing to pay that, hell even $200 if need be :)

frankbell 04-23-2016 08:38 PM

I'd pony up at that level.

I'm good with that. I like little fuss and usually would avail myself of a one-time thing versus something that I'd update from year to year or have to put effort into keeping track off.

Thanks for the feedback. I've added a lifetime option to http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/member.html.

Cool, now when I am ready I will definitely go for the lifetime option :)

Just subscribed

I just saw the lifetime option and ponied up.

I'd been meaning to subscribe for a while now, since I get such great info here, and with the LT option, I just had to pull the trigger.

Hello and welcome to the forum, thank you for being willing to help LQ with such a sizable donation! :)

That leads to the inevitable question of will you pro-rate the sub I've bought or should I just wait then do lifetime at re-up time.

I hadn't considered pro-rating, as the concept doesn't really apply in cases where the duration is infinite (ie. whether you wait or do not wait, you will be paying the same price for a lifetime subscription). That said, any member who is a current Contributing Member and would like to upgrade to lifetime can contact me offline and I'll look at each on an individual basis. Thanks again for the support.
