just an idea

I have an idea,

What about maybe a fun forum it seems alot of people who make the move to linux are younger and even us older users sometimes enjoy a good web based game or something. Maybe a place to post websites to linux related fun sites? Then maybe in that forum a sub forum to place linux useful sites?

And maybe what about a member testimonial forum? Looks as if alot of people come to LQ with fears and worries of making the switch to linux maybe if they had a place to go to see posts from other members that made the switch it would give them the confidence to make the transition to linux?

Just an idea!

Don't those fall under "General" and "Member success stories"?

Yes you are right but the fun things in general can be far and in between. And as far as the member success stories that can be on a broad range of things from getting java working to a sound card to whatever.

I am saying a "specific" place to post the fun sites and a "specific" place to post about the switch and only the switch and how painless/painful it was and there distro and stuff like that.

I think it would be good if a person thinking about linux could see forum on the main forum screen. If a new user goes into success stories on most the posts they are gonna have no earthly idea of what someone is talking about.

again it was just an idea!

I have to agree with David on this one. General can be used to post links to Linux fun sites. It having its own forum would only invite unwelcome posts, links, etc. General is just fine for this as we don't need another separate forum to moderate, etc.

About the other one, that is the sole reason we made the Success Stories, to post any type of Success with Linux, as if you just converted from Windows or got something as simple as Flash working. You can even post small howto's or tips as well there, as they are very suitable in that forum.

I really only see your requests as being fulfilled really. If we break down the forums into too many categories, its only going to cause confusion, more double posts, etc.

Cheers.
