Is John on line?
 

Hi:

I have several times in the past placed the mouse cursor over the name of an LQ user, the one that is on the left of my posts when I read them, and I got a little box saying 'John is online' or 'John is offline'. But now I can't reproduce this. Is still this feature existent? Thanks in advance.

Do you see a "?" on the penguin on the left bottom of your first post ?

The "?" means the person is on-line.

And a plain penguin means either the person is off-line or invisible !

Thank you very much. It's useful when you are waiting for somebody's reply to know whether he is on line or not. One more point for LQ.

Thats true and you re welcome, BUT

A plain penguin always doesn't mean a person is Off-line, A person may be on-line but invisible :D

I think it's a little complex for me. Perhaps by an example I can understand it. How do I know the o.s. you are using to answer my post?

No it is not complex,

1. Type about:config in your address bar, accept the warning.
2. Put useragent in the top text box named "Filter", hit enter.
3. Double click it.
4. Enter the exact name of your distribution e.g. OpenSuse/Firefox/3.6.8 (on my it was /Firefox/3.6.8) yours may be different.

Did you see the green symbol on the bottom left corner of my post near the penguin, it means I am using OpenSuse.

I now understand. But I have the radio button in 'yes' (show the o.s.) and to the left of the penguin there is the head of another penguin. If I place the mouse cursor on it it says 'linux'. But I use Slackware. Besides, I've just seen the slackware logo in wikipedia and they do not match.

EDIT: I selected the other radio button and the penguin's head disappeared!
