I see we now have Rich Media ads on the main page...
I see that Linuxquestions has done something that they vowed never to do....
Rich Media ads.
And they're even on the main page
Wow...
I never thought I'd see that.

Actually, there a was a post a few months back asking everyone for their vote on the acceptance of these types of add banners. The majority of the people didn't mind, plus the money for the ads helps to sponsor LQ.
I, for one, don't care about them. They are well placed, and don't distract from my browsing of the forums.

Actually we had flash ads for the first couple years - I can't remember "vowing to never have them", FWIW.

I don't mind the ads either. I mean it's not like they're those obnoxious flashing "you are the hourly winner!!! click here for some ripoff offer and all the spyware in the world " types. Plus I'm sure the cash generated helps the site.

exactly... I think the thawte banner is tasteful and very relevant... as well as the Sybase ad.... As long as they are relevant to computing or even technology for that matter... And are linking to well respected sites.. I don't have a problem with them...
I would only mind if it started advertising for those things like "get your free Sony Vaio!" Just fill out this form and recieve a 2000 page survey.... and your e-mail address given to everyone on the web... and your harddrive filled with every piece of tracking software we have... And It's FREE!!!...
Maybe I'm being facetious... but you get the idea..
