HOWTO on the main page ... make your sys boot from CD or DVD first

and removable drive if applicable

(I know there's the sidebar and what's in it but people seem to ask anyway even though that's there)

Do you really need to run up your post count with all of these suggestions? Would not one post with all of your suggestions taken care of that? Just a suggestion.

I am actually much in favor of a large "Newbie start here"-button on the front page. Distro recommendation/discussion, how to get, how to use - basics. I got so tired of the usual discussions I wrote a Danish page on the issue. Beginners need precise pointers, and the freedom to choose is useless, if the choice is between 10 distros you can't distinguish from each other anyway.
So I said "I recommend SuSE, Fedora, Mepis. They have THESE distinct advantages. You should a
use a download manager - I suggest THIS ONE. you will need to burn the image files (I explain what image files are). Either you have a program for this or you can use THIS ONE which I prefer."
This is a smack-down way of doing it, but that is what a beginner needs.
