How to enter code into thread?

Examples entitled "CODE" showing commands, programs and error messages are often included in threads posted here. This is probably the simplest newbie question ever asked, but how does one insert such messages? Can't find the answer anywhere.

just click "post reply" and you'll get the full editor with buttons for quote and code blocks. Alternatively just write [ c o d e ] and [ / c o d e ] (without the spaces) either side of what you want to post.

When you're composing a post, look in the toolbar and you'll see a button marked #. If you hover over that button you'll see the tooltip reads 'wrap CODE tags around selected text'. So select your text, click that button.
